Avalon Assisted Living Social Adult Day Care for Seniors

A five-day-a-week Social Day Program for Seniors has been open since April 28, 2014 at The Avalon Assisted Living & Wellness Center in Wappingers Falls, Dutchess County, NY.  The Avalon Social Day Program for Seniors is the only non-Nursing Home Social Day Program for Seniors in the County that is open five days per week.  Created in consultation with the Dutchess County Office for the Aging, The Avalon Social Day Program for Seniors will provide meals, social activities, events, and personal care services (if necessary, on an individual basis) to attendees.  The Program targets seniors who would benefit from the opportunity to get out of their homes and socialize with peers, but may require a supportive environment to do so.

Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro welcomed the Program’s opening, noting that it will be “a vital service offering for both seniors and caregivers.   With the growing senior population and the lack of such adult day care in this area of the county,” he added, “we are pleased to see The Avalon working to fill this need.”

The Program  runs from 10:00 am to 3:00pm, Mondays through Fridays, with additional services and care available before and after the program as necessary. Transportation is available to and from any senior’s residence within 10 miles of Wappingers Falls, and special arrangement may be arranged for those further away.  Individuals can attend two days, three days or five days per week, based on personal need and interest.  The Program is a privately funded service, with financial assistance available to qualifying individuals through the Dutchess County Office for the Aging EISEP and Title III E programs.

“Peer socialization can be a vital and powerful tool for maintaining mental capacity and self-worth,” said Jacob Reckess, Vice President of the Avalon’s parent company, PAZ Management, Inc. “We are proud to provide a new, consistently available option for seniors in our community to socialize in a supportive setting.”

Individuals interested in participating or referring someone to participate should call Melissa Madison, Director of Life Enrichment, or  Teresa Marie Mulligan, Program Administrator, at (845) 463-0500.
